I have a '95 540i M Sport. I think that the suspension (EDC) and brakes are the same as the E34 M5. Does anyone know of any 16" wheels, preferably from another BMW model, that will fit? The guys on the E34 board said perhaps 850i wheels would fit.

your best bet is the BME OEM 7 series 16x8" BBS takeoffs.I can get them with or without tires.
