Difference between e28M5 and e34M5 BLOCK? (archive)

can the earlier s-38 block be used to build a later s-38 b36 e34 m5 engine? I know the differences between the big six block (rear cooling port, cooling ports between cylinders, oil port) and now know it cant be used, but would like to use the e28 block to build a stroker motor for my e34 m5
