I recently have been having probems with my getrag 280 in my 91 M5. The 2&3rd synchro problem. I purchased a 1988 M6 getrag 280 with 12K miles on it to replace mine with. I am just about to start this project and have been purchasing all the necessary components, disk,TO beaing,PresPlate, rear main seal etc. From what I understand the only diff in the 2 trans are the good brass synchros in the 88 and addition of the sensor holes in the bell housing. I need to know if anyone knows more about this type of project that me. PLEASE!!
numbers from the 88 trans 26 001 302 91 WBAEE141732561203

I know that the clutch disk replacement part number is the same, but things like the quibo, pressure plate shifter parts are different. Please any insight is appreciated.

I sold a 280 (rebuilt) out of my wrecked m6 to a guy who installed it in a 91 M5--no snags, everything is the same, with the execptions you pointed out above. Every expert I spoke to said the e24 M6 280 will not last as long as the e34 M5 280, that is, under equal stress--the e34 m5 has a few more horses and certainly more weight.
