I posted this on the E34 M5 mailing list, and Raymond answered:
The Getrag 280/5 is an older design and it was only a question of time before Getrag ceased the spare parts supply. BMW as end manufacturer is responsible for the spare parts. In Europe, manufacturers are bound by law to garantee spare parts for seven years. The last E34 ///M5's are now already that old.
Stricktly spoken, Getrag says that Jim Blanton and others are not Getrag dealers or service stations. I have no doubt, Blanton and others will find a way to rebuild transmissions without the support of Getrag, if they haven't done this already.
