My source within BMW Mobile tradition have learnt me that the spare parts for the E26 ///M1 and the E24 ///M635CSI are covered by Mobile tradition. This means that the Getrag 280/5 can be obtained through them for a long time to come. Granted, a revision by Jim Blanton is out of the question then, but a new gearbox won't break the bank either in case you really need one.

The Getrag 280/5 is an older design and it was only a question of time before Getrag ceased the spare parts supply. BMW as end manufacturer is responsible for the spare parts. In Europe, manufacturers are bound by law to garantee spare parts for seven years. The last E34 ///M5's are now already that old.

Stricktly spoken, Getrag says that Jim Blanton and others are not Getrag dealers or service stations. I have no doubt, Blanton and others will find a way to rebuild transmissions without the support of Getrag, if they haven't done this already.
