I am assuming you are talking about the IHKA climate control. Where you have a horizontal wheel instead of a knob. This system is found mainly on the 7 series, and a few 5 series. This system have a few problems. First off, the stepper motor mounts behind the radio or EDC may break. Most people just glue it back or wire it back. If the control unit may go out on you, the dealer do not sell them anymore. You will have to get one from a junk yard. What's nice is you can get these parts off of the 7 series. I had to replace my control unit and also refasten my stepper motor behind the radio. After that, the climate control works great. Don't let this problem discourage you from buying the car. Just check and make sure the climate control is working on all settings. You will find this board is very helpful. In fact, a lot of my research into my climate control problems were resolved from information from this board.
Not sure about value for the 5 seater vs 4. I think it's just a preference. Check out www.kbb.com to get a book value.
I'm considering a '91 M5 4 seater. It also has the thumbwheel a/c controls. Is a 4 seater worth more or less than the 5 passenger? Were there problems with the '91 M5 climate controls?
What would it be worth in excellent condition with 70K miles?
