well i think thats the main reason the 540's quicker.its geared to pull 66,110,166,225 in its first 4 ratios at 6500rpm compared with the m5's 60,102,157,210 at its 7000rpm.so extend the rev limit of the m5 to about 7500 by fiting a chip and then see which is quicker.plus the 540 has more torque and weighs a little lighter
