I'm considering my next BMW purchase. I have it narrowed down between a 97-98 540i or a 1993 M5. Any comments for or against either? Thanks for any input.

Rob, I just experienced the exact same scenario (acutally 98 540i vs. 91 M5 with a Dinan performance chip and stage II suspension). You really have to decide what it is you want (a heart decision indeed). They are two very different cars. I went with the M5...it's an astonishing car...mindblowing...the 540i is something to buy when you're an old fart. Just make sure the M5 was well maintained...check the valve compression in particular....otherwise, they do become expensive cars to own, particularly if previously abused.
