All reviews of the E34 M5 got a 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds and a 0-120 mph time of 21.0 seconds, about the same as the M3 to 60 mph but by 120 mph the M5 is ahead, pretty good for a car weighing 1000 lbs more than an M3 and only having about 71hp more. On the handling side though its M3 all the way. I have raced many cars which claim 0-60 times in the mid 5's and the M5 never loses. Just takes a proper driver. Attach a Gtech to one like I did, consistent 1/4 mile times in the low 14's and 0-60 mph times in the low low 5's. The M5 feels deceptively slow because it masks speed...

I own both. The M3 is a sports car. The M5 is a tank. Both with Dinan suspensions, etc. The M5 is just way too heavy and the power is from 4,000 to 7,000, very linear and smooth, but not much grunt, and too slow in coming.
