The auto transmission really slows the car down. BMW automatics (even GM built like this one) are renowned for their poor life. It is fine for normal driving around, but it is not very sporty. Also, that model likely has rear load leveling which will be quite worn out and expensive to replace. Other than that, just normal E34 things, like thrust bushings.

I was wondering what type of issues I should be aware of? I am looking to but a 1993 525it auto. It has 120k on the engine. Are there a good amount of modifications on the market for this car? Is the automatic too slow of a car to be able to squeze more HP out of it. Thanks for any advice you can offer me.
