Some of you have asked about or made mention of Frank Fahey's place in San Diego . I am currently having my S38 motor done there and I am happy to report that everything is going exceedingly well.

Frank is a bonafide M gearhead and runs the type of shop that Steve D. used to run in the Bay Area. That means that the customer is more than welcome to hang around, shoot the breeze, observe, and all that other good stuff. IOW, you get to see where your $$$ is going ;>)

My cylinder head is now a work of art. As good as it was from M GmbH, there was definitely room for improvement and it's all cleaned up, port-matched, and stress-relieved.

The block is cleaned up -- casting slag removed and interior painted for good return oil flow -- and is going out for torque-plate boring this week. JE Pistons is making up some custom forged 10.3 to 1's, and the rods are all polished and reconditioned including elimination of all stress risers, i.e., the little 'ridge' along the I-beams. The 6mm SCAT stroker crank is just fine, thank God, and that combined with the bore will give real close to 4.0 litres of displacement.

She ran great before even tired as she was. I thought about selling but then reason prevailed. What else can I buy that gives the best of both worlds -- sportscar/utility? -- like an M5 does? Another M5, lol... and I considered an E39, but I like the E34 better. It has a harder more chiseled appearance as opposed to the more 'luxe' look of the new car.

So, I kept her, and for my total sportscar fix I went with a new '01 M Coupe -- still box stock but I have time, lol...

'Nuff rambling for now ;>)
