I had considered an M5 transplant into my 530iT before I realized just HOW much modification would be required. Instead I found a 540i/6 donor car, and Brett Anderson will be converting the 530iT to a 540iT 6-speed.

If you really want the 3.8l engine, sell the 530 and find a 6-cyl. E34 to be the recipient of the transplant.

FrankenTouring conversion starts 4/27

Right now i drive a 95 530i w/ about 90K miles and would like to buy a new engine within a few years. Just wondering how much the 3.8 costs. Any help is appriciated.


Hold up a minute! A 530i is a V-8. The 3.8 liter M5 is a 6 cyl. There is not much besides the bady shell that is common, and even the body shell has all the brackets and brake system relocated for the V-8. Sell it and buy an M5. Or install a 4.0 liter V-8.
