My '94 530iT is being converted to a 540iT 6-speed as I write this. Brett Anderson (www.koalamotorsport.com) is doing the conversion -- you may want to contact him to see what's really involved. I found a wrecked '95 540i Sport that is being used as the donor car. I'd been considering at least a manual transmission conversion for over a year, and in that time, I've only seen 2 used 6-speeds come up for sale. There was a complete 6-speed conversion kit in the Roundel classifieds sometime within the last 2-3 months. I think VAC motorsports (www.vacmotorsports.com) had it for sale.

I have a 1995 540i M Technic Sport (M5 without the engine). Unfortunately it is an automatic (5spd). Takes away the edge.

Anybody have ideas on whether it is worth converting to a 6 speed and how best to get this done (I'm not a skilled mechanic)

Or perhaps there is a way to make better use of the auto transmission, some kind of "tiptronic type" conversion or something similar? Any ideas?
