I think I'm going to stick with the automatic. I hear that it is a PITA to change as it requires new software, dash changes etc... and I hear numbers between $5 and $10K inc. labor [assuming all goes to plan]. Would be a lot cheaper to buy another 1995 540i Sport with a six-speed or just go to an run-of-the-mill plain old boring M5 :-)

Anybody want to swap or to buy a Blk/Blk 1995 540i M Technic Sport, California Car (now in SF) with EDC, M Brakes etc... 5 spd Auto with 59K? Make me an offer / email me and I'll send some pictures.


Saw this on a parts website. Damn cheap. Better jump on it if you're serious about converting.
