For me, it's going to end up costing considerably less than a converted M5 Touring. I bought a wrecked 540i Sport, and was able to get back almost all of the purchase price by selling off parts. I kept the rear brakes, steering wheel and complete driveline. After paying the labor bill for the conversion (and selling the 3.0l/auto trans), the conversion should end up costing somewhere between $2000 and $4000 (net). Of course that does not take into account the countless hours I've spent taking the parts car apart, answering emails, packing, shipping, etc. etc.

Unless you have a complete donor car, and/or unless you do the actual conversion yourself, I don't think a auto-to-manual conversion of a Touring will be cost-effective.

How much does such a conversion cost?? (6 speed + engine) and, would the price be almost comparable to buying a lower mileage converted euro 1995 M5 touring..
