shuddering/thumping noise in transmission tunnel (archive)

during medium acceleration from 2-15 mph in 1st gear, a low pitched, thuding sound is heard. Sound is not heard during gentle takeoffs.

Flex disk and center support bearings have been changed. Been told that the u-joints may be going out (car has 117K miles).

Has anyone been satisfied with re-balancing their driveshafts? if so, please email me the name of the shop and approx cost.

any tips on doing R&R at home? thanks,
