E34 M5s have iron blocks. The early M60 3.0 and 4.0 liter V8s had the nikasil cylinder lining in the aluminum blocks, which didn't hold up well to the high sulfur content in US gasoline.

No need to worry about that in an E34 M5.

Are the '91 and '92 M5s affected by the nickasil bore problem? These are both U.S. models that I am looking at. The '91 has 95,000 miles and the '92 has 88,000 miles. Thanks!
