Ryan:

The trade-off is not fuel economy it is:

1. Lower safety margins against knock.
2. Need for better maint - HFM in good condition, O2 sensor in good condition, no intake leaks that could lean engine out.

Dinan performance chip mod? It's website says it offers somewhere around 30 HP. How does this effect the already sad fuel economy? Using sad for a lack of better vocabulary, been studying US history all night... I know you dont get something for nothing anyways, just wondering. I was considering an E39 528i but because I'm only 20, insurance premiums follow the older-is-better creed, eventhough the M5 is a much more high-performance machine. oh well. Thanks guys
Ryan
