Stock HP is 311 if I remember right. 340 is what Dinan claims, although few engines will Dyno that high.

All E34 M5's have manual transmissions, so the chip has nothing to do with it.

It sounds like you are getting hung up on the numbers. I assure you, this car is a rush when driven hard.

One note, the engines are very expensive and should not be pushed hard until they are hot. I keep the rpm under 3000 and don't use full throttle until the water is hot. Then I gradually increase the rpm limit until the oil it hot.

I was driving my daughters and their friends to a track meet. They said "lets jam Dad!" I said no, the engines not hot. Later (wide country road, no other cars) I said, "are you ready to jam?" They all said yes, and with a "hold on!" I hit it hard from a stop up to about 70 MPH. They screamed like we were on a roller coaster...
