//M 525 sighting in Newport Beach (archive)

I was cruising around Newport beach (Jamboree) where on any given day you will see dozens of M5s, 911s, CLK430 AMGs, etc. I noticed by chance what appeared to be a late model E36 body style 525 with an //M badge on the rear. Did BMW ever make such a thing (a 6-cyl //M5) or did someone get creative?
