The seat heating switches are off when they are centered. Push on one side and you get full heat. Push a little on the other side and it will return to center. Push the other way and they will be on low heat. Earlier M5's used a switch that controlled a relay system and did not reset to off when the ignition was turned off. Later M5's use a switch with transistor control inside the switch that resets to off when the ignition is turned off. My M5 to which I just retrofitted both front and rear heated seats has the transistor control switches for the front seats, the relay control switches for the rear seats; the switches are not interchangeable due to the wiring and pin configuration. I do not know where the crossover is with regards to years that the switch (no pun intended) got switched (or if it did).Gary Hesse

Does the seat heating turns on every time the engine is running? How do I turn it on and off?
The manual only says things about heating quickly, or kepting it warn on the rocker buttons.
