The rebuild should be no where near $10k just for the bottom end. It is not that tough to put together. Farm out the machining work and do the assembly yourself on a stand.

I paid $620 in top-end machining costs. All new guides. A friend paid $200 for his S14 bottom end. I think that was an AWESOME deal, but I cannot imagine more than $600 for it. So, say, $1200 in machining costs. Pistons can be got for $1-1.5k max. Your crank is likely OK. You get the picture?

I know I keep saying this, but keep in mind that used motors ARE available in the $3-4k range. Keep it all in perspective!

As you can tell I still can't make up my mind. One thing for, I'll part it out before I spend 10k on a bottom end.
