The car was a joy to drive, but had excessive play when driving straight. I had been thinking about trying to install the rack and pinion from a 525. Also, the steering wheel was angled to the right.

The steering box is designed to have minimal play when pointed straight ahead. When I did the camber/bump steer measurements I found the marks were way out of alignment. It turns out the alignment shops had only been adjusting one side. The other was rusted tight and took a couple of hours and plenty of Liquid Wrench to break free.

I already had the struts and rotors off, so I pulled the steering wheel too. Without any weight on the steering box, I was able to tighten the adjusting nut and spin the input shaft back and forth past center until just the slightest drag could be detected.

The result, almost no play in the steering wheel (which is now pointed a little to left of center). When turning, if I let go of the wheel, it does not quite return to center, making me worry I went too far. Comments?

The car is truely a dream to drive. Delightfully sensitive, with good feedback through the wheel and razor sharp response. I think the 18's and SO3's have something to do with that too...
