I have the new "Auto Motor und Sport" magazine in front of me: 4WD will be an option on all sedans and tourings in Europe from June on, either in the 330d or the brand new 330i.
In the past, BMW produced 4WD E30, as sedan, coupe and touring, as well as 525ix sedans and tourings.
As far as your question, Luke, I remember having read about a 323tix or 325tix some time ago, where someone merged the compact's with a 325ix's drivetrain. I'm not positive which engine they used. This makes somewhat more sense than a E36 sedan, b/c the compact shares several parts (rear axle, for example) with the E30.
