Actually, pinking is the British derivative of the American pinging. Take a look in the Haynes manuals & you'll find a load of British-American translations.

Also maybe you car has a build-up of carbon on the cylinder heads. common on the six cylinders particularly on the rear most cylinders. A good thrashing may help, or some of the valve/head cleaning additives may be successful. The old method of dripping water into the open carburettor is out these days.
