It's tempting to buy into this business of putting in the new blue-tint/platinum bulbs which look like the real HID lights but buyer beware.

Scientific research shows that these imitation HID bulbs might look cool but actually project less light in the proper color ranges you need to see the road.

Going from the standard 55w/60w bulbs up to 80w or 100w bulbs is asking for trouble on two fronts. The standard BMW headlight wiring and relays are not quite beefy enough to handle the extra amperage consumed by these hi-watt bulbs. The extra heat generated also causes problems with the plastic construction of the headlight housing.

Beware of the hype. The prices are a bit steep and if you miscalculate that burning smell might cause big $$$ problems.

: I just put higher wattage foglight bulbs in. Last night one of my foglights broke. It was raining. Is it true that if cold water splashes the lens, they may crack? Am I going to have this problem more with the higher watt bulbs? I found some plastic covers that push on and fit to cover the foglight. Has anyone had experience with these covers?
