I have a 94 325iC. It's a great car. Here are a few tips:
- Get the newest car you can afford. Each year there are small improvements.
- The 94 engine has variable valve timing; 93 doesn't.
- Make sure you get the electric convertible top. There are some manual versions out there. Make sure it works perfectly. Make it go up and down 5 times. Inspect the top carefully for tears, etc.
-Check the back plastic window for clarity, cracks, and abrasion.
- Get these options in this order: rollover protection (must), sport package (must), on board computer (OBC) (good idea), traction control (ASC)(nice to have). Some have heated seats. All have A/C.
- Don't get a 318. They're OK, but the heavy convertible really needs the 6 cyl engine.
These are very reliable cars, but there are lots of things that can go wrong. Have a good BMW mechanic check it out before you buy.
93 & 94 have the dreaded plastic water pump impeller. Ask if it's been replaced. If they don't know, make this the first thing you do.
After getting your baby, check out these options:
1. wind deflector (must have)
2. Jim C computer chip (more power)
3. 16 or 17" wheels (looks better, drives better)
4. better exhaust (more power; M3 bolts right on)
There are lots of these here in California, but they cost more here for some reason; must be demand. I'd look "outside" of CA as you will probably get a better price.
Good luck,
...bill
: I've got the bug. Looking at 93 or 94 models of 325ic. Looking for any advice, known problems on these models. Any major differences between the years?
: Just starting my search. Have already visited edmuds.com and kelly.com. Any other links are most appreciated.
: A friend has suggested I look to purchase one in CA, as there are apparently a huge # of BMWs in that state. Any comments?
: Thx
