Light Metal vs. Alloy (please read) (archive)

I was just wondering what the diff. between light mental and alloy is? Obviously alloy has a mixture of metal in it, but if rims are made of "light metal" is that bad? Thanks in advanced
PS Should I purchase rims that are made of "light metal"?
