If you hit a bump in the road and it just goes thump then the shocks are fine, if it carries on bouncing then the shocks are on their way out.

Push down on the corner of the car and let go, it should bounce up slowly then settle down, if it bounces up and down several times then they need replacing.

If the car can be blown about on the road by winds also then I would replace them, also check to see if they are leaking any fluid, if they are change them.

Finally does the steering wheel vibrate, i.e. judder left and right when driving, if it does the shocks are worn.

This is just my personal experience so if anyone else wants to comment feel free.

I think the stock shocks are supposed to last 80,000 miles.
