: : I have a 93 325is with 120k miles (never wrecked). For the last year I have been wrestling with a shimmy that comes on at 40mph and then disappears above 50mph. The steering also feels a little "sloppy" over bumps. I've tried three different types of tires (balanced and rotated numerous times), had ball joints, outer tie rods, and control arm bushings replaced. The next try is a $1000 steering rack replacement (dealer found a wobble in the joint where the steering rack meets the inner (?) left tie rod, took the boot off and looseness appears to be in the steering rack). I can't stomach dumping $1000 into something that "may/should" fix the problem (again!). Any suggestions? Thanks.

What is the cost (ballpark) for the struts? What makes you think that may be the problem? (no one ever mentioned struts). Thanks for your help.
