One of the key steps in painting is preparation of the surface to be painted. I would get the aluminum very clean (degreased and no dust) then maybe lightly sanded to give the surface some "tooth" (a rough surface for the paint to hold onto). Aluminum will dent easier than steel, and this can cause it to chip easier. Your finished result should look nice.

The silicon also needs a very clean surface to adhere. It will work best on bare alumunium (without paint). Unfortunately, most silicons don't like to be painted (it will say so on the tube). You can get BLACK silicon! By the way, the nature of silicon makes it resistant to high temperatures so the black silicon just may do.
