I have the same problem also.. it started to appear when I had my front original tires balanced.. I donno why it started but it start to wabble around 35-40 and goes away around 45 and come back again at 95+mph..
So I think it's my tires, but I am not sure.. and I am goin to get rid of my original front tires with 58K miles on it.. it's soo bald that you can see your face reflect back at ya.. damm. But, I'll keep you posted if it goes again.. or I might have to do what you are doing also.. >_<
Keep me posted on your behalf.
: I have a 93 325is with 120k miles (never wrecked). For the last year I have been wrestling with a shimmy that comes on at 40mph and then disappears above 50mph. The steering also feels a little "sloppy" over bumps. I've tried three different types of tires (balanced and rotated numerous times), had ball joints, outer tie rods, and control arm bushings replaced. The next try is a $1000 steering rack replacement (dealer found a wobble in the joint where the steering rack meets the inner (?) left tie rod, took the boot off and looseness appears to be in the steering rack). I can't stomach dumping $1000 into something that "may/should" fix the problem (again!). Any suggestions? Thanks.
