ATF pan large and small (archive)

Hey guys i changed my atf filter this weekend and removed both the large pan and the small pan in front of it
In order to fill up the atf i filled the small pan with 1 or so liters of atf and attached the small pan back on which could get a little messy and thenput the large pan on and used the fill plug to fill it. Was that the correct procedure. I ran the car for 30 sec and then refilled the remaining amount via filler plug.
