Water on Battery (archive)

Opened my bonnet today and found my battery cover to be moist with a few drips of water running at the base of the battery, its water I think and not the battery leaking ( battery quite new). Any ideas on where the water is comming in from?

PS The battery is in the engine compartment on my m42.
