: Heat works great in my car, but trying to run the air conditioning just doesn't seem to be working. The temp is around 74 degrees outside and the air just doesn't get any colder when you press the A/C button. It will cool the car some but it seems broke. Is there something I can do to fix this? I can't imagine what it would be like in the summer when it's 90 degrees or so out. I've heard replacing the microfilter will help some, is this fixable without a mechanic? How much? I have a bentley manual...is it easy to do with that? Thanks

Check the condensor for bugs and dirt first. It looks like a radiator. If it is fine make sure the electrical connection to the compressor is clean and tight. Then check all relays and fuses associated with the AC. If all fine go for the recharge. DO NOT OVERFILL. An overfilled system will cycle too much and also fail to cool properly. This is why it is best to draw a vacuum on the system and then recharge. I would advise against doing this yourself.
