I just shipped my 97 328is from Toronto to Los Angeles in April. I agree with all that was said below and would add that if you can, go with an enclosed carrier as opposed to an open - air carrier. They will probably do a survey of the car for scratches, etc. before hand. If they don't insist that they do (or take pictures like was suggested) just so you'll have some proof that any damage that occurs was the shippers fault. My car made it here without even a scratch.
