BMW's CD head unit (archive)

I've seen BMW's new head unit with the CD player versus the "business radio" on my E36 that only has a tape deck, does this new unit simply plug into the wiring harness of the E36 or is more complicated like an adaptor? does it use the two antennas too? In 1998, I replaced the stock unit with a Sony model with a CD player because I didn't want to pay that $$$ for the CD Changer and there wasn't an aftermarket option then and now it's developed some intermittent connection between the car and the Sony. Just trying to weigh my options here, I've put the stock unit back in just to make sure the loose connection is in the adaptor/Sony and not the car so I'll ride around with that for a while. If it turns out to be the adaptor I'm thinking of fixing or replacing the adaptor or getting the BMW one with the CD player. Hopefully, I'll be able to use the secondary antenna which helps alot with FM reception too. I'm not too fussy with the radio, it's a car not my home so I don't care too much about the quality but I don't buy or have cassette tapes anymore...

Anybody know how much is the CD unit?

Jay
