I have a '97 328iC, and have had no problems with the power top. Be aware that it is a complicated mechanism, and so don't abuse it. Keep the top clean (get bird crap off ASAP), and treat the rear plastic window with kid gloves and it should last for years. BTW - if you ever have to manually close the top (due to a dead battery, say), I have the procedure for resetting the motors to be properly synched on my web page - see http://ebaines.home.att.net/328ic.htm and click on "Convertibe Top Reset Procedure." -Chip: I would appreciate hearing from E36 convertible owners who have the power top. Is it reliable? I am negotiating to buy a '97 328iC with the power top. It seems to work fine but have heard that they can be problems. What should I be looking for or should I go with a manual top? Thanks.
