Fan Ever go Off???Comments Please! (archive)

'97 328i, 52k mi, no mods, My cooling fan pisses me off when I'm driving because it's loud, covers any exhaust note, and draws hp. I wouldn't be concerned if I was driving hard in 90 degree weather but my fan will be coming on when it is as low as 70 degrees, at night and I am moving like 50-55mph on a back road without working the engine hard. Is this normal???? Is there an adjustment? Please help.
