Hard to tell exactly what is wrong, but Bentley Manual has a few checks for poor acceleration.
These are:
1) Test Throttle Position sensor
2) Test Mass air flow sensor
3) check for major intake air leaks downstream of mass air flow sensor
4) fuel pressure too low
5) test fuel pump
6) ground connections loose, broken or corroded
7) ECM missing or limp home mode
8) ECM faulty
It certainly sounds like something to do w/ cold starts. Try the mass air flow sensor test first.
