Also, how many miles on your car, have you serviced the car? What type of gas/octane rating are you using. If you are feeling hesitation on acceleration there could be something that needs to be serviced.

Also, Some pre-93 BMW's did not come w/ VANOS (Something like VTEC), which will give better torque response below 3000 rpm's. Later BMW came up w/ dual Vanos which is supposed to help low end torque even more. BMW didn't make our cars to be a rice rocket off the line, If you want a racecar to really take the doors off your wifes car buy an M3 or a V8. Also, buy some life insurance if both of you are racing and go to a good driving school.
I don't want to sound arrogant or sarcastic, but give us more info when you post so we can see what you are talking about.
