I'm skeptical (archive)

I suspect what you'll end up doing is developing an efficient way to ruin your finish. The reason why car washing involves water is that the water is a medium that lifts and carries away the dirt without scraping it into the finish. If you simply try to wipe away dirt and grime you will succeed only in grinding it into the finish.

If you're not allowed to wash the car at your apartment, I suggest finding one of those do-it-yorself car washes - the kind where you use a spray wand. This is better for your finish than the big bristles and reused water that most car washes use.

Wow, I went to put preservative on the external rubber and clean and put some wax on the wheels, and I've noticed something about these carwashes, they mainly take care of the large, smooth surfaces but not really the details, in other words the easiest parts, where if you want to get the details you have to do them yourself anyway. Now, I live in a rented apartment (self-employed and still gross under $100K/year which ='s small fish) and we're not allowed to wash cars here, so I plan to come up with a "waterless" washing method for my car, I'm thinking first brush off with one of those real-bristle "shop brushes" then wipe down with something, then some kind of wax if required, detail stuff etc. I think I'll save money over what the carwashes charge, even with buying rags and cleaners, and get a better job out of it. I'll post my findings here, since although most probably don't like to admit it, there are probably others who read this forum who are in similar circumstances - have some taste in cars but not a place to wash 'em.
