I don't remember every single detail step but with my box, there are both screws and clips and all the shit stuff. I tried to keep them all but couldn't. All the metal slips will be broken and there is no way you can keep them, but I figured out by breaking those slips hurt any things. After taking off all those slips and screws, when you try to open up the cards, it's sound like broken plastic from the inside but it is not. I think that noise is from those components that are sticking to each other at high heat temperature, no hurt though. But still you should be carefully when open it up. I've heard that computer box is very expensive.
Good luck.

Hi I just bought a chip and I'm trying to install it. The install instructions don't seem to match that of what is in my car. I have a '93 325is. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to install it. I found where the ECU campartment cover is but after that my car doesn't match the instructions. In the instructions it say there are 6 locking tabs but in my car there are three screws. Now I've tried to take those three screws out and take out the plasic cover. When trying to do so I started to hear the plastic break. That's when I stopped to ask you guys for any help you can give me when installing the chip. Thanks to anyone who can help

I had a similar experience with my '94. I did exploratory surgury to get the chip number before I ordered the chip. Like RN I snapped all those sheet metal tabs off too. Make sure all screws are off. The unit clam shells open. The chip is the one with the sticker on it in the replaceable socket. Note the orentation before you remove it. Pry it out a little at a time on both sides so you don't bend anything too much. Line up everything on the new one and push straight down. Reassemble and then put a small bead of silicone at the joint. Without the tabs the seal is compromised. This is a weakness in the E36 design. If water finds its way into the DME the car will die and you will need a new DME to get it going. That DME compartment is not sealed in order to get cooling air to the DME, so water will indeed get in there. Why BMW couldnt put the computer in the passenger compartment with some heatsinks and maybe a fan is beyond me. They can put a fan on an Intel 486 processor for $1 but they couldnt do the same on a $40k luxury sedan. . . anyway. Definetly room for more refinement guys.
