Has anyone had a fault occur with their automatic transmission which caused the transmission failsafe program to activate. I am currently having this problem with my '92 325i. The fault and program are reset upon restart. A TSB states that a fault code of 40 could be incorrect due to faulty parameters in the ATC (EGS) control module EPROM for a pressure solenoid. I can't remember if a fault in the trans. can be read by the BMW Modic if it isn't currently illuminated. The problem occurs on and off and is reset by a restart. Driving the vehicle to a dealership in failsafe mode is not a good idea if you are more than a couple of miles away. Any experiences or input on this would be appeciated.
