My five cents, which may be worthless, is that only very big bang-for-the-buks mods are worthwhile. If you can change the intake and get a chip for a few hundred dollars, that may be a good deal, which will enhance your enjoyment and get you to stay in the car longer. If you spend many thousands of dollars on mods that you will not recover in sale, i would not do that unless you are COMITTED to keeping the car a long long time, and maybe not even then. The reason, as you correctly state, is that you can take that 3-4thousand or more, invest it, and have maybe 6K more when it's time to buy a newer car, rather than putting it into a car which may even have a negative effect on resale. 6K difference will get you into a vastly better factory car. For example, the sport package only costs $190 on a used car. The factory can just do it cheaper than we can.
