First off, get a game plan when planning mods. (1) How much HP do you want?
(2) How much $$$$ do you want to spend?

On the cams, I really don't know too much about GTC. I have heard a lot about Shrick, they seem to be very good for our cars (very little idle problems). I friend of mine put the Shrick in his 89 535 (E34). His car ran like stock too about 3000 rpm, then from about 3000 to 6000 you could feel the torque. He then added an autothority chip for the low end, he said it helped, but I barely noticed.

Cams will help the car breath a little better, but you may need a high flow throttle body and intake to help the air/fuel mixture. Also, when wanting HP increases, what goes in should also come out. In other words, you will need to match how much air your car is gulping in, then you will need to mix the air/fuel correctly. Lastly, make sure you have good exhaust to get rid of all of the built up power. Headers, or even a straight pipe (getting rid of the cat) and a larger exhaust will help. Matching Air in, fuel mixture and exhaust will greatly improve acceleration. I.E. you cannot just get a big intake and big cams, as HP will back up (not a technical term) at the exhaust and will lower HP. (sorry trying to explain in non-tech. terms).
If you want good acceleration, get sways, better suspension/springs, and go to a driving school. I read an article about a Lamborghini diablo getting bested at an auto-X by honda's as the guy couldn't navigate the turns. Speed is not always in a straight line.
Another thing to help 0-60 and 1/4 mile times is a differential (it'll help low end starvation). They are expensive, but are a very good mod as our cars are mostly built for high end not low. You may want to go with a 3.90 ratio (I believe 318's were 3.45 stock, I could be wrong) I think you may also be able to put in a 325 a/t diff. (this is 3.91, someone correct me if I'm wrong)
Again, watch what you want to do, it's easy to over do it. If you want blistering speed best way to go is turbo or supercharger (SC) route. Less headaches and less money in the long run. i.e. let's say you buy a chip from Dinan, and then go with Dinan's SC, you may have to replace the chip with one designed for the SC. (I believe Dinan's Supercharged chips are diff. from their standard chips, the fuel mapping should be diff.)

If you have any other questions, just let me know. Hope some of this helps.
