I feel for you. I have a guy in a white ranger do that to me once. I did a bit more to cause it, but not much.
He was goin like 25 in a 45, and i was reving my engine, but not tailgating him. I pass in a passign lane, and chirp my tires. I turn right at a stop light.....he comes flying after me. So i did what you did. Punched it and got a good distance between us, and ditched into a neighborhood and killed the lights.
You did the right thing due to the fact that you had your little bro with you. You are lucky he didn't have anything that could catch you, and follow you home. I get the same feeling after a street race sometimes. The shaky leg, and being hard to shift. I don't smoke regularly, but a cig calms me down.
I guess some people just have problems....maybe he had some mental issues or something. I'm glad you stayed away from any physical contact.
You did exactly what i would have done.
