for manslaughter. About 10 years ago. Some 18 year old punk and his football friends was messing with this guy who happened to be a martial arts master. The martial arts master sidesteped the guys first punch and kicked the kid in the heart instantly killing him. The martial arts master may be out this year or next for manslaughter after serving about 10 years. Clearly from all accounts it wasn't his fault, but because he was proficient at the arts the jury gave him the max. It's not worth it. Carrying a gun is stupid also. I have a lot of guns, trust me. Don't carry a gun unless you are definately willing to shoot someone. And if you do shoot them, make sure they are DEAD (dead men tell no tales and can't sue you). Also, I believe the federal offense for illegaly carrying a gun is at least 1 year. Personally, I carry a jutsu (telescopic baton) and know how to use it. I have been attacked a few times and when someone sees you know how to use a weapon they mostly back off. I have been lucky, no one that messed with me yet had a gun. I've found that most guys who talk sh!t can't walk the sh!t, so if you calmly and authoritativly tell them to back down they most often will. Always remember that if someone is willing to confront you, they are often irrational, and think or have something they can take you out with. Glad to hear you were ok, albeit shaken.
