As you said, photo radar is an "instant-on" type. You don't have a chance against them, unless they're shooting at a car ahead of you, and you are close to it so your detector sniffs out stray signals.

Anything "instant-on" is a no-contest; they win :<(.

Fortunatly, we don't have photo radar in Ontario, Canada (we did a few years ago, but the present day gov't scrapped them saying that they're nothing more than money grab) so that's one less headache. But, radar detectors are illegal in Ontario :<((((.

We do have coppers who park their cruisers pointing the wrong way on the on/off highway ramps with a hand held laser. One of these days I am going to slide into one at a high rate of speed, and claim he was driving the wrong way - F_CKING BASTARDS! We'll see how that one flies in the courts.
