I recently purchased a Uniden LRD 767 SWS radar detector (which incidentally has a built in compass, that makes it extremely handy for navigating). Now as you may know, photo radar (speed cameras) operates on the Ka "instant-on" band, so it is relatively hard to detect. I notice that whenever I pass a speed camera, the Ka warning alarm never goes off and the signal strength indicator only registers a very weak Ka signal momentarily, when I'm right on top of the camera. This of course would be too late to take action if I was speeding. It seems to me the detector is completely useless for detecting speed cameras and were it not for the fact that they are so obvious to spot, I'm sure I would have gotten a ticket by now. The unit did save me from an unmarked car (it was a really cool Ford Falcon XR8, in bright red by the way, as featured on NZ TV's "Motorway Patrol":) with its K band "HAWK" radar turned on, though. What sort of experience have you guys had with cameras and detectors? BTW I drive an E36, so I'm not completely off topic!

TIA
