Hello,

I am having a problem with a '94 325is. The power steering pump blew and I just replaced it. Now the belt is squealing and there is still no power steering. I tried to put on a new belt but it is not working properly. Here are the symptoms. The belt squeals above 1500 RPM's and the alternator pully gets REALLY hot. The tensioner is locked up, meaning that it will not spin. I am thinking that the belt is supposed to sit on the tensioner (which should spin), am I correct in this assumption? The belt sits on top of the tensioner and flows over it, but the tensioner itself does not spin like the the other pully's. Anyone have any experience with a similar problem? Again, no power steering, the brand new belt squeals, the alternator pully heats up, and the tensioner does not spin. Any advice on how to troubleshoot? Thanks in advance.

Best,
Rory
